“Good Morning, Upper Perk. Welcome back to Tribe Talk!” This is the phrase every student at UPHS expects to hear when they walk into homeroom. However, recent changes in the studio have resulted in the beloved news show disappearing for a number of days and coming back renewed. So, what’s up?

Recent struggles in the studio have appeared, which the Tribe Talk Crew has been learning to navigate through. Equipment ages just like anything else, and the current studio is getting ready to retire. When filming, the equipment decides it has had enough and gives up, resulting in the missing stories. But fear not—Tribe Talk adapts!

The crew has tried several alternatives to ensure quality news gets out on time and effectively. Currently, the UPTV cast and crew are doing every other day newscasts to give the equipment some rest. On its day off, the efforts continue! Students and staff may have noticed over the past two years the increased usage of Instagram reels in replacement of the news on YouTube. Instagram has been an accessible way for students and even staff members to stay informed.

When interviewed, Mrs. Herron stated how “Instagram has been great. Learning how to develop social media content has actually been really valuable. You can produce a lot more, a lot faster while using a lot of the same skills.” So, not only is it a helpful and accessible platform, but it’s used as a learning tool for students as well.

Mrs. Herron told the WSJ, “There’s been a lot of challenges this year, but it’s caused a lot of positive.” One example of a positive change as been The Walt Street Journal move to a digital platform on its very own website.

While the website primarily displays articles, the team is working towards implementing newscasts on the site. This website is entirely student-run and a major add-on for UPTV & Multimedia.

Another addition is the new set! Say goodbye to the stoney backdrop, and say hello to soundproof black curtains!  Mrs. Herron added that they “are getting soundproofed foam installed on the ceiling” because what’s a studio without soundproofing? Don’t get too excited because that’s not even the best part, the studio is “getting a custom [light up] Tribe Talk sign made by the XLab, more specifically Cohen Trexler!”

So, we cracked the case! Tribe Talk isn’t missing or on the run, they’re hard at work adapting to change.
