Historically, the Upper Perkiomen boys’ wrestling team has been one of the high school’s most successful sports programs. Throughout the years, the boys have wrestled their way to becoming state champions, placing in the NCAA all-American division, and even having members qualify to be in the District 1 Hall of Fame. With these achievements already accomplished, there is much to look for in the coming season as the team continues to strengthen.

Last season, the team made some notable accomplishments, including winning their division, qualifying for District Duals, and achieving a final record of 11-6. Thanks to these successes, this season the team has been moved up to the bigger school division called the Liberty Division. “The new Division will be challenging, but we are prepared to compete” Coach Adam assures WSJ.

Captains Sean Murry, Zane Seager, and Ben Godshall are some star players on the team to watch out for. Sean is currently ranked 6th in regionals, and Zane is a regional qualifier. Additionally, Dom Wolfe, Drew Bennett, and Brandon Quinton are other players to keep an eye out for this season.

The boys’ wrestling team is coached by Steve Adam who has been head coach for 8 years. He previously spent 20 years as the assistant wrestling coach at Brandywine Heights as an alumnus of the high school. Steve wrestled throughout high school and ended with a record of 98-18. He continued his wrestling career going D1 at East Stroudsburg University until it was unfortunately cut short due to injury.

Steve told the WSJ that his “coaching philosophy is always to practice like you never won and to compete like you never lost. Be a good teammate and always be humble in victory or defeat.” He highlights the importance of having a strong sense of confidence while still being hardworking and respectful toward others.

A tough competitor the team will have to face this season happens to be their rivals, Boyertown. The match is set to take place at Boyertown on Wednesday, January 29th.

To keep up with high school boys’ wrestling as the season unfolds, check the school athletics page located on the UPSD website to find their schedule, records, tournaments, and more. The team is hopeful to wrestle harder than ever this season and keep the legacy of the Upper Perkiomen Boys’ wrestling team thriving.
