The Winter Formal: a break from the usual cold, dull January and post-holiday blues. Unfortunately, its absence last year left some Upper Perkiomen Students disappointed, leading to speculation regarding its return this year.
The Future Business Leaders of America, or FBLA, began hosting the Winter Formal three years ago. As the head of the institution, Mr. Williamson told the WSJ that this school year’s Winter Formal is on. It is set to occur towards the end of January at the Upper Perkiomen High School.
During his interview with the WSJ, Mr. Williamson said the FBLA has decided to hold a dance on January 25th in the gymnasium. He also stated that the dance would take place between six and nine o’clock.
Mr. Williamson said the dance would have a “winter theme,” although the specifics are still being worked out. Students are encouraged to dress in semi-formal attire, similar to homecoming.
He noted that some of the funds raised from the winter formal will go to the Mini-Thon, a fundraiser hosted by FBLA that supports families affected by childhood cancer. The tickets are said to be priced at $20 and will begin selling closer to the formal’s date in January.
Mr. Williamson told the WSJ, “About three years ago a couple of girls [from FBLA] came up with the idea to have a Winter Formal.” As a club that focuses on learning and practicing business skills, students gain experience managing the financial and logistical aspects of the event as well as the theme and activities.
Last year, however, the absence of the winter formal raised questions among students and staff. During his interview, Mr. Williamson told the WSJ that he did attempt to host the winter formal last year. However, the administration did not approve of the event for unspecified reasons.
However, this year, Mr. Williamson expressed excitement about the formal’s return, saying “There wasn’t anything in [January], it was kind of a lull” and the dance provides something for students to do.
Thanks to the efforts of the Future Business Leaders of America, students at Upper Perkiomen High School now have the opportunity to look forward to the upcoming Winter Formal.
