Every day, we look for ways to evolve and progress. As for Upper Perkiomen High School, our club presidents work on ways to make the school a better place in their clubs, but Mr. Flanagan is pushing club presidents to do more.
On the first Thursday of each month during I/E, Mr. Flanagan meets with our school club representatives to discuss “Any topics relevant to the school, school culture, or any suggestions from clubs/organizations or [Mr. Flanagan] about how we can bring positive things to UPHS.” This group is called the Student Executive Board.
So far, they have devised a new school slogan: #UPHSStrong, a little saying to bring the Upper Perk School District together. After winter break, you can expect to see posters and Parent Square posts with this slogan.
This club is significant for the school and our reputation moving forward. Ruth Padilla, president of the Junior class and Student Council, reports, “We finally get to voice not just school opinions but change the image of the district with all of our ideas and creations together because it’s one thing for the adults to make the decisions, but when the students have a chance to speak about what they’re experiencing, it changes how we’re treated, how we’re seen, and overall how everything can be benefited from.”
They discuss topics other students may find controversial, such as the Indian, which has caused controversy throughout the country in recent years. Club leaders find positive ways to resolve conflict so that everyone in the school and community can come to peace and unite.
This group of students promotes unity and progress while fostering a positive school culture. Look for #UPHSStrong around the school after winter break!
