Our school’s ECC Club has always been a spot for teamwork, environmentalists, and fun, but this year, they are bringing a fresh change. With a new teacher, Mr. Moyer, stepping in to lead the way, the club is open to new possibilities.
For those unfamiliar, ECC stands for Environmental Conservation Club. This club is all about taking action to protect our community and promote sustainability. Mr Graham, who was originally the advisor for the club since 2016 is now giving his position to Mr. Moyer. Unfortunately, Mr Graham didn’t have enough time for teaching his classes, while also handling the club. He also stated, “… it was becoming difficult to get students to sign up and participate in the events we were planning.” There wasn’t as much enthusiasm as Mr Graham wanted. He passed it over to Mr. Moyer, hoping this would solve the issue.
ECC spends most of their time around the school making contributions to help nature. The club holds monthly meetings where they decide to do these activities, which consist of specialties such as “…dissecting owl pellets, making posters to educate the school about environmental issues and behaviors, and building birdhouses and bird feeders.” Often on the weekends, they go to different local nature spots to do outdoor hikes, kayak trips, stream, road cleanups, tree planting events, and rock climbing trips. ECC will be having a holiday party this December, where they’ll be creating ornaments from unrecyclable bottle caps.
With Mr Moyer at the helm, ECC will continue to inspire more students to join to embrace their interests and hobbies.
