It’s no secret that our Upper Perkiomen football team has displayed tremendous hard work and performed much better this season than last. This year, the team recorded 6 wins and 5 losses, marking a huge improvement from last year’s record of 1 win and 9 losses.
The team began their season coming out hot withholding a record of 3-0 for the first time in 18 years. The team also advanced to District One playoffs for the first time in 7 years. The question is what contributed to these successes? Players suggest that the mentality of each individual on the team was improved this season.
Junior Captain Maddux Diaz tells us, “This year was a big year for us in terms of building culture and a “we are the best” mindset that we lacked last season.” Sophomore and Varsity Corner Back Benjamin Sands agrees, “Everyone was eager to succeed after last season’s results.” The team has recognized that the improved mindset played a winning factor in their success.
In preparation for the season, players spent two weeks of “summer camp” conditioning, watching films, lifting weights, working on agility, etc. to physically and mentally prepare their minds and bodies for a good season. When Diaz was asked about the team’s preparation for the season he said, “I think everyone would agree that summer camp made us more conditioned and game-ready for long drives which helped us outrun teams.”
Notably, the football team’s success increased immensely. Sands adds, “We all knew what the potential was; we just needed to put in the work to achieve it.” We are eager to see further execution of their hard work next year.
