Upper Perk’s very own girls’ field hockey team has proven after each game their incredible skill and ability on the field, with a final score of 12-7 and two games tied, these girls pushed their way all the way to states yet again!
Upper Perk’s Field Hockey Team has 3 skilled seniors among them, Maguire Simms, Julia Traynor, and Jade Traynor! UPFH’s very own Maguire Simms has played Field Hockey for 13 years with four more to come when she attends Albright University. She took some time reviewing the girls’ season and letting us in on the secret behind their success.
When speaking with Maguire, she stated how, “Over the course of our season, I believe our team has improved on our outlet passing and our execution. We work hard at practice and you can tell it pays off when it comes to our gameplay.”
While the girls have been working hard, Meghan Griffin, coach of UP Girls’ Field Hockey has helped guide them in the right direction. Even though she’s new to the program, Coach Griffin “has made a huge impact on [the] team.” Maguire states how “she is always encouraging us to do our best and makes our practices the most beneficial to the things we need to improve on which really helps us in our gameplay… we are so thankful to have her as our coach.”
When asked who has stood out during the season, Maggie stated how the entire team “has been thriving and improving each day.” However, she said that one player in particular deserves to stand in the spotlight. Ryann Sanfelice, the team’s goalkeeper, has been working hard and it truly pays off. “Just as a sophomore, her high school career is just getting started and she’s already soaring with over 300 saves total!”
Moving on to states, which the team is “so grateful and overjoyed to have [had] the opportunity to play in.” The girls won their first state game against Southern Lehigh, with a final score of 4-1. However, the team unfortunately lost their second game against Northern York, with a close game of 1-2. These girls fought hard and Upper Perk is proud to recognize them as our Girls’ Field Hockey team!
