From finger paints in kindergarten to full project portfolios senior year, Upper Perk Senior Art students have spent their whole lives preparing for their Senior Showcase. Arts Week is a chance for seniors not only to celebrate their own growth in art but also to be celebrated by the school community for their talents and creations.

Upper Perk’s Arts Week took place from May 5 – 9, culminating in Arts Fest on Thursday, May 8th, and Friday, May 9th. The week featured a variety of showcases specifically displaying seniors’ collections of work. Any senior may create a showcase to display their favorite designs throughout their high school careers. It could be a drawing, a portrait, photography, or even a ceramic object or X-Lab creation.

Mrs. Lychock, one of the art teachers at UPHS as well as a key leader of Arts Week, shared with the WSJ, “It is totally up to the individual to decide what they want to have displayed and how.”

On Thursday, May 8th, Arts Fest kicked off with an awards ceremony. Sponsored by Univest, award winners receive cash prizes within the following categories: Colored Drawing, Black and White Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Digital, and X-Lab. Students (Student names) won their respective awards.

Mrs. Lychock shared about the beauty of the Arts Fest Senior Showcase, saying,
“I love the senior showcases because it shows one artist and their journey through the years. Seniors can showcase the work they may have done outside of school and show others all their hard work.”

In addition to the senior showcases and featured 2D art, 3D art was also displayed from ceramics and woodworking classes. Mrs. Lychock told the WSJ, “The X-Lab [showcased] work from students from this year and… included all types of woodworking, resin, 3D printing, and metal sculptures.”

Mrs. Lychock hopes that students who viewed the Arts Show can see how they can take an art course and learn more about the creative process, and increase their own art skills. Arts Week is a chance to see the opportunities available here at UPHS while also celebrating the talents of all of our seniors.
