From sports recaps to student interviews and comedic entertainment, UPTV and Multimedia have released two new podcasts for Upper Perk students to tune into. Those looking for sports news can turn to The Perk Playbook, and for those into comedy, Tribe Talk welcomes Wait…Let’s Talk About It.

The WSJ spoke with hosts of The Perk Playbook, Jackson Phillips, and Cohen Trexler. Jackson Phillips explained topics that are talked about on the podcast, stating, “It’s all sports, we try and get as much Upper Perk stuff done, mostly in-season athletes… We also usually try to include around two topics out of school as well.”

UPTV and Multimedia also have a comedy podcast: Wait…Let’s Talk About It. Maggie Wambold, a host of the podcast, explained the preparation of the episodes, stating, “On the first episode, we made an outline, and we did go off that. However, that has sort of gone off of what we’ve done… we do communicate in a group chat… where we share ideas and so forth.”

Podcasts take much preparation and pre-production. When asked about the work that goes into making a podcast, Cohen stated, “We have a document where we go over what sports are happening, so we usually plan. We know who we’re going to be interviewing ahead of time so we try to make specific questions…so it’s nice and smooth.”

Creating two podcasts in the middle of the school year takes a lot of work and inspiration. Head of UPTV & Multimedia, Mrs. Herron, discussed the podcast inspiration with the WSJ.  Mrs. Herron revealed, “My students have been wanting to make a podcast since I started here in 2022. However, with making the news, keeping up with projects, and so forth I haven’t really had the time… with the news being down I had a little bit more time to get things figured out.” Herron went on to say that UPTV Sports Liaison Cohen Trexler’s idea for The Perk Playbook pushed her to just take a leap into the podcast world. Herron explained that podcasts have been “a positive addition to the club…Cohen Trexler and Jackson Phillips have really stepped up to help create smooth productions.”

Both podcasts are released weekly. For updates and more information, students can visit the official Instagram page @upperperknews or tune into either podcast on the Upper Perkiomen YouTube @upperperkiomennetwork518.
